Safety of players is our first and foremost responsibility. No players will be allowed to take the ice without ALL of the proper equipment. This includes neck guards.
No player shall take the ice for a game or practice until the zamboni has left the ice surface and the zamboni doors are closed. Players will not be allowed on the ice without a coach, or referee present.
There will be zero tolerance for any hazing, teasing, or criticizing of any player by another player or parent. This includes the opposing teams. We will develop and teach sportsmanship and teamwork. Players will support one another and the coaching staff will absolutely NOT tolerate any criticism of teammates.
Every player will play, and play equal amounts of ice time during games (within reason). This means that every kid will get to take the ice when it is their turn in the rotation. Typically, there are 3 lines, so each player will be on the ice every 3rd shift, regardless of skill level. We do not stack lines, or "shorten the bench" in Squirt B House games. Everyone pays the same amount, everyone will play the same amount.
The coaching staff will try to accomodate each player's desire to play certain positions, however, we cannot have 13 centers. At this age level, it is important to begin developing players at a given position, which requires repition and consistency. So, as much as possible we will let the kids play where they want, or rotate positions as needed so everyone gets a chance.
Locker Rooms: The rooms are clean when you enter them, the rooms need to be clean when you leave them. Mt. Clemens Ice Arena is a nice facility and it is up to us to help maintain that. Put your tape, wrappers, garbabe, etc. in to the trash can that is in the room.
No ice throwing, tape throwing, glove throwing, or any other kind of throwing in the locker rooms. Although it may be just in fun, it usually ends up with an unsuspecting kid getting hurt by accident. Don't throw things.
There will be no tolerance for intentionally attempting hurt or injure any player on our team (in practice) or the opposing team (in games). Hockey is obviously a physical sport, and even at the squirt level there will be incidental contact, and times where players run into eachother, fall down, accidentally trip eachother, etc. The coaches know what is incidental, and what is intentional, so just don't do it. We can tell the difference.
Sportsmanship and fair play is an important lesson that we desire to teach our players. Please respect the referees. Players, do not talk back to the refs, question their judgement, or call them names. Yes, they make mistakes just like we do, but that is the nature of the game. Respect the referees' decisions. Parents, please do not yell at the referees when they make a mistake. Most of them are young kids not even old enough to drive yet, and when they make mistakes, they know it, without you yelling it to them. Leave that to the coaches, we yell at them enough as it is.
Please let the coaches coach, that's what we are here for. If there is an issue during a practice or game with your player, we will gladly discuss with you after the game or practice. But, for example, opening the door to the benches and yelling instructions to your kid is not the way to go. This will typically just cause confusion and/or embarassment to the player. Let us coaches take care of the kids during hockey.
If there is an issue with the coaching, we would like to ask that you observe the 24 hour rule if at all possible. In most cases, if you wait 24 hours to discuss it with the coaches, you'll find that it really wasn't as big of a deal as it seemed in the heat of the moment. Obviously there will be differences of opinion, etc, that seem like the end of the world, but waiting a day, we usually find that it was not as big as we thought.
Ice Bills: These are due to myself or "Gramps" the 1st of every month. Our team receives a bill from the association, which must be paid by the 10th of the month or we incur additional fees. So we need the ice payment as early as possible in the given month.
Other obvious rules, No smoking, alcohol consumption, tobacco chewing, swearing, or anything of that nature is allowed at team functions.
We're all here for one reason: For our kids to have Fun! Remember this one.
